Have you ever looked at your smile and wished your teeth were larger, more attractive, and brighter? Dental veneers have the ability to do this for your smile. They can reshape your teeth, making them taller, straighter, and the shape you desire. At the same time, they can close gaps and repair damage. Oh, and they can make them brighter and whiter, too. It’s like getting a whole new smile with just one procedure.
What Veneers Can Do for You
Veneers are a powerful cosmetic dentistry procedure that can radically transform your smile. In one procedure, veneers can improve the appearance of:
- Chipped teeth
- Poorly shaped teeth
- Small teeth
- Discolored teeth
- Gaps in your smile
- Crooked teeth
Dental veneers can repair a chipped tooth by restoring the visible front of the tooth. Veneers can be made to closely match the appearance of your natural teeth so no one will know which tooth or teeth had been repaired.
Veneers can also be used to reshape poorly shaped or small teeth. Common uses are to make peg laterals look more normal or build up retained baby teeth.
Because veneers put a new front on your natural teeth, they can make your teeth look brighter. And because they aren’t relying on your natural tooth material, veneers can whiten in situations where teeth whitening won’t work.
While reshaping your teeth, veneers can often do the work of orthodontics. They can close gaps in your teeth or make your teeth straight. And while fast orthodontics still takes about six months, veneers can give results in under a month, which is why they’re often called “instant orthodontics.”
Your Veneer Process
During your consultation, we will first listen to your cosmetic goals. Then we’ll do a thorough examination of your teeth to make sure that veneers will be a good match for your smile. Then we’ll recommend veneers or perhaps a different combination of procedures.
If veneers are the best choice for you, we will schedule your next appointment, where your teeth will be prepared to receive veneers. This means removing a small amount of tooth enamel. We will use our digital scanner to take impressions of your teeth–no need to bite into a gooey tray–and send these impressions to a lab.
While you wait for your permanent veneers, you will wear temporaries, which will look very good, although not as good as your final versions. When your permanent veneers are ready, you will come to our office for fitting them.
We will check your veneers for appearance and fit. If they look and feel right, we’ll bond them to your teeth.
If you properly maintain your veneers, they can last up to 20 years!
